Once Upon a Time "An Apple Red as Blood" Review PART 2

Back in Fairy Tale Land Charming is being held captive in King George's castle. We get ANOTHER step-son getting hurt all because the step-parent isn't having their way. We won't be seeing this again in the future will we? I see a theme going on here. King George wants to behead his son. This guy is loony toons. The blade begins to fall onto Charming's head when it turns into water and Regina makes her grand entrance. King George and Queen Regina. These two deserve each other! She makes a deal with George to take Charming to make Snow suffer. Meanwhile, outside the palace Snow is gathering up her forces. Granny and Red join in and Grumpy has a trump card up his sleeve for later. Who could that possibly be?

One of the dwarfs fires a flaming arrow and they're off to storm the castle. The Blue Fairy sees the signal and brings her hoard of multicolored mess with her. Of course! That's who Grumpy was talking about. Who else could it be? Snow turns into a Xena wanabe, yells, fights, and gets rescued by the pick ax wielding Grumpy. After the big fight scene everyone is gathered together thinking they've triumphed! Uh, oh! More guards! No worry, the Skittle Brigade appears to back them up. The fairies attack the guards with dust that doesn't effect our heroes at all. Taste the rainbow you white clad bullies! Finally, Snow makes it to Charming's cell. She all oh my gosh! I found you! NOT! Just a mirror with Charming in it. He's over at the Evil Queen's castle now. The two go into their romance thing and thankfully Regina stops them with the quip,"...don't want any tongue marks on my mirror." LOL! Good one Queenie! Then she and Snow have talk about meeting where it all began and to be unarmed. That Evil Queen she works so dirty. Of course Snow will play fair but will the Queen? Of course not. This is a world where apples are the weapon of choice and she sure won't be without her's.

  • Back in Storybrooke, Emma meets up with Archie to talk about what she should do about Henry and Regina. She basically decides to leave Storybrooke but have visitation rights with Henry if Regina will agree of course. Regina places a card with a white rabbit on it onto a little girl's bicycle plate. It says Paige on it. Oh, so she's summoning the Mad Hatter, Jefferson! Later, they meet in Regina's office and she brings out the famous hat that Jefferson been trying to make a duplicate of for so long. Boy, Jefferson handles that well. Maybe he's got something up his sleeve to trick Regina? No, he seems to fall for her plan again. I hope he is wary this time at least. Regina says that the only place where this hat may work in the world without magic is under her father's mausoleum. The only magic she has is what she took with her. Oh, so that's why she could crush hearts in this world. How much did she actually take with her?! They both place the hat in the mausoleum and she places some trinkets inside. No go. She pulls out her Daniel ring and after a small pause which shows how much she wants revenge more than her love she drops the ring into the hat. There's only enough power to pull something out from the other side. Something small and she knows exactly what she wants.
Meanwhile, back in Fairy Tale Land Snow has met the Queen at the same stables where she first saw Regina and Daniel kissing. Snow follows Regina to Daniel's grave and is finally told the truth about what happened to Daniel. That's a long time to keep that secret Regina. Snow seems shock but not enough. She doesn't understand why Regina would keep such a grudge over a little girl's mistake. Me too girl. Me too! Clearly when it was her mother's fault not Snow's. A little blackmail takes place when she pulls out the infamous apple. The Queen will kill Charming if she doesn't eat it. This felt hollow to me. Why not fight her Snow? No, she just gives up and bites the apple. Charming seems to feel that very moment. Awww. Love being so strong the other feels one's pain. Like Vincent and Catherine from the Beauty and the Beast tv series. Snow falls and the apple rolls out of her hand and into a vortex and right into the Hatter's hand. Regina has a treat for Emma. When I saw this for the first time I knew exactly what was going to happen. I'm sure many others did because of those darn ABC promos. They love spoiling the episode just to get us to watch. Don't they? Regina cuts up the apple and makes one big turnover! When Emma comes calling to make a deal about Henry Regina gives the poison apple turnover to Emma as a truce. Regina's all happy and talks to Gold about how she won't have to worry about Emma anymore. She used magic to make magic and Gold gets his opportunity to say his favorite Rumple line. "Magic always comes with a price." Gold also mentioned once during the show that Regina has nothing that he wants. Makes me wonder why Regina didn't pull the Belle card out of the hat. Maybe we'll see something of that in the finale. Hope so! Gold looks all knowing again like yeah it's going to backfire in your face woman! Back at Emma's apartment Henry shows up. Emma says she's made a deal with Regina to leave Storybrooke but come back to visit him every now and then. Henry panics again which is what he does best and often. His earlier trip to August/Pinocchio didn't work and now he's got to make Operation Cobra survive! He tries to convince her to stay again and then they see the turnover. Of course it's poisoned! Anything from step mom is poisoned. I'm surprised Henry has lived this long with how much he suspects Regina all the time. Poor paranoid kid. To prove that fairy tales are real for once and for all Henry takes a bite of the turnover. Henry is down for the count. We're left with a shocked Emma and a passed out Henry who lets go of the turnover just like grandma Snow did with the apple.  Will Henry survived to the end of this season? Who will be his true love? Tune in for the finale of the best show on television! Please tell me what you thought of the episode or anything you want in the comments! Thank you! :)

  1. I've seen you mention this blog on ZQC. I record these episodes but managed to cut off the last bit this time, so I came here to see what happened. You're right; for the last 10 minutes I kept saying, "You KNOW Henry is going to eat that apple!" Gold hinted, and it was obviously going to go wrong. Didn't you think that her dreams showed Regina feeling guilt, though? I have a feeling she is about to reform and we'll get a new "bad guy". I didn't think about Henry's needing a "true love kiss". Will his real mother do? Hm. (I have a blog here, too.)

    1. Yeah, it seemed quite obvious that Henry was going to eat it. Makes me wonder if I should continue watching the ABC promos before the episode. Aww, I know I will anyway. Can't help it. lol! I hope Regina is showing some guilt but how much guilt can she feel and how much of it is real? Remember Rumpy said she would lose something if she starts this curse back in FTL. Does she still have the ability to love like everyone else or is it now forever marred by the curse? I do think the kiss will come from either or both of Henry's parents. Maybe Gold is off to find Henry's father and he just happens to turn out to be Bae. lol! One can hope. I'll check out your blog! Thanks for reading and commenting! :)

  2. Great review of the show! It's been one of my favorites from the very beginning, so I love how everything is finally catching up. The finale looks like a good one too! As far as this episode goes, I finally got to watch it last night, on dishonline.com, and loved every minute of it! I loved how you described the fairies too, lol; I actually had a bit of a chuckle when that scene came on. Other than that the episode was definitely pretty predictable when it came to Henry eating the turnover, but I still enjoyed it. I really hope Regina gets what’s coming to her, and even though Mr. Gold seems like one of the bad guys as well, I just hope he finds his happiness. I don't know what I'm going to do after the show ends, but I guess luckily, I can go back and re-watch most of the episodes on dish online to get my fix when needed. Thanks for the great review though...I'll definitely be passing it along to some of my coworkers at Dish, who are big fans of this show as well. :)

    1. Thank you so much for reading and commenting! This series is very good and I hope there will be another season and more. May sound like I complain in the reviews but it's because I really love the show. Gotta love the fairies even if they're a little fashion challenged. I think Mr Gold is on his own side whether it's good or bad it's really how he sees it through his own eyes. Cool! Thanks for passing it around to your coworkers! Love to hear what they think of the show and the review! Thanks again. Hope to hear more from you. :)
